We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team and help us deliver a highly effective, accurate, and responsive payroll service to our staff.
About The Role
As the Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in delivering fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and an outstanding employee experience. You’ll work collaboratively with our People & Culture and Finance teams, as well as a range of external partners, to support smooth and efficient payroll operations.
This role is ideal for someone with mid-level payroll experience who enjoys problem‑solving, continuous improvement, and delivering excellent customer service.
What You'll Do.
- Process end‑to‑end fortnightly casual payroll and assist with monthly pay runs
- Action and verify employee variations
- Prepare termination payments, including long service leave calculations
- Set up payroll profiles for new employees and deliver payroll inductions
- Manage salary packaging deductions and monthly PAYG reporting
- Reconcile car parking deductions and support dual-appointment reconciliations
- Maintain secure and accurate electronic payroll records
- Respond to payroll queries in a timely, service‑focused manner
- Contribute to the transition to a new payroll system, including data preparation and process documentation
- Support interpretation of the Enterprise Agreement (EBA) for payroll matters
- Participate in ongoing payroll training and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Promote a positive, equitable, and safe workplace in line with Florey’s values
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Mid‑level experience with mainstream payroll software
- Developing knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, EBAs, and compliance requirements
- Understanding of tax compliance and salary packaging in the Not‑for‑Profit sector
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage with a diverse range of staff and stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills and a process‑improvement mindset
- Experience generating payroll reports
- Excellent customer service focus
Desirable:
- Payroll experience in a research or Not‑for‑Profit environment
- Experience with Greentree payroll software
- HR process knowledge and exposure to HR/payroll operations
