The role
The position leads a small team in providing high level guidance and expertise to leadership in relation to People Operations Projects and Processes.
The position plays a lead role in the development and implementation of People projects and initiatives in line with the organisation’s strategic direction. The role will oversee and manage Onboarding and Offboarding, Employee and Student Engagement, and lead the implementation of new HRIS.
This role is integral to building strong relationships between stakeholders and the People team along with providing specialist People advice and support.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for:
- Building and maintaining strong and trusted relationships across all areas of the Institute. With a particular focus on designated business areas, the role acts as the primary point of contact for employees and managers for all people operations issues.
- Making decisions and solving complex problems with a considerable degree of autonomy and an ability to negotiate, consult or escalate matters when required.
- Translating the strategic direction of the Institute into day-to-day activities by applying advanced expertise and knowledge in the areas of organisational development, recruitment and selection, performance management and learning and development.
- Identifying, creating and implementing solutions to improve the Employee Lifecycle process and employee experience.
- Overseeing the People (Employee and Student) Engagement Survey and identifying and implementing solutions to address areas of concern and need.
- Managing projects entailing major change, which involve collaboration with other areas, and which impact the Institute’s operations.
- Handling difficult and sensitive communication relating to complex people issues.
- Influencing and engaging all levels of the organisation making a real impact in supporting the Florey’s cultural change process.
- Conceptualising, developing, reviewing and implementing major policies, objectives and strategies through high level engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintaining and applying knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, talent management, diversity and inclusion and employment law.
- Managing the administrative function of HR including the designation of administrative tasks and management of HR systems.
- Developing and maintaining relevant metrics and data analysis to inform decision making and risk mitigation strategies.
- Maintaining and developing data and reporting systems.
- Role modelling expected behaviours.

The role attracts an annual salary offer of $137,251 (Professional Staff Level 10A), commensurate with experience.
About you:
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant qualifications in Human Resources or related field and/or extensive HR experience at a senior management level.
- Proven experience in leading teams and managing and developing staff.
- Current and extensive knowledge of HR management principles, relevant legislation and best practice.
- Strong capabilities in decision making, influencing and stakeholder management.
- High attention to detail.
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills.
- Solid understanding of the Fair Work Act.
- Strong experience in coaching and conflict resolution.
- Ability to align HR practices with organisational strategy.
- Proven experience in high level consultation and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience establishing priorities and delivering results to meet prescribed deadlines.
- Managing a team of HR professionals.
