The role:
The Institute Veterinarian provides essential expertise to the Florey animal research facilities by providing a program of veterinary care and is responsible for managing all veterinary services.
Key Responsibilities
- Management & provision of Vet services across Florey research activities to provide a program of veterinary care
- Animal Health screening and pathogen testing, animal health and welfare consultation
- Coordinating Adverse incident investigations and post-mortem assessments when required
- Developing, reviewing and managing in-house training programs for animal-based procedures, including surgery and aseptic technique and use of anaesthesia and analgesia.
- Developing, implementing and reviewing policy and procedures for all technical procedures involving animals and biosecurity of SPF (Specific Pathogen-Free) animal facilities.
- Supporting the institute around animal ethics, welfare and compliance by ensuring operations associated with the animal ethics office and the animal welfare and compliance team function at a high standard and in alignment with all relevant legislation.
- Promoting the principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement (the 3Rs), a culture of animal care program, and openness within the institute regarding the scientific use of animals
- Be part of the Florey Animal Ethics Committee.

About you:
The successful candidate will have:
Essential
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications
- Australian recognized Veterinary Degree
- Current registration with the Victorian Veterinary Board
Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential:
- Membership of the Australian and New Zealand Laboratory Animal Association* (ANZLAA)
