The role
This position will play a key role in the operation of Core Animal Services washroom facilities which supports the Institutes Bio-resources’ needs on a daily basis.
The key components of this role will involve processing of rodent caging equipment, stocking the facilities, operating large machinery, manual handling of food and bedding deliveries, general cleaning and adhering to regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for:
- All aspects of processing rodent caging associated with the Bio-resources facilities
- Assist with the coordination of day to day operations of the washroom and equipment processing areas
- Ensure work routines are adhered to and tasks completed in accordance with the direction of the Area Supervisor
- Monitor consumables levels and assist with stock ordering where required.
- Report equipment faults and adhere to maintenance schedules
- Work effectively within the Core Animal Services team and comply with all animal services protocols and procedures.
- Assist with training of staff in the wash areas.
- Support the collective vision and mission of the Florey through
- open and collaborative communication that promotes positive and respectful relationships
- fostering and supporting innovation within the team and broader Institute teams
- excellence in practice driven by a focus on equity, diversity and inclusivity
- Other duties to support the Core Animal Service Team as required

The role attracts an annual salary offer of $69,487 (Professional Staff Level 4.1), commensurate with experience.
About you:
The successful candidate will have:
- Effective time management
- Ability to work well within a team environment and alone with minimal direction
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift items/equipment
- Core Animal Services operates 7 days per week, the incumbent is expected to contribute to overtime work on weekends and public holidays as required.
- Attention to detail with all tasks, excellent at data management and animal welfare monitoring.
- Effective communication, writing and organisational skills
- Demonstrates initiative and able to use their previous experience to problem solve and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and follow procedures and protocols.
- Experience in cleaning, use of specialist equipment and machinery.
- Experience lifting, transporting or organizing materials
Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential:
- A current Victorian Drivers License.
- Previous experience in an animal facility washroom, cage processing and sterilization procedures.
