Manager of Workplace Relations and Wellbeing

The role

Lead the workplace relations, case management and wellbeing function. Which will partner with people leaders to collaboratively manage complex grievances, workplace investigations, underperformance cases, conduct cases, terminations, protracted injury and illness matters, conflict resolution, industrial disputes and Florey representation in the Fair Work Commission as required. A key focus of the role is to ensure Florey People Managers enhance their capability and confidence to become more independent in managing these employee cases. The Manager Workplace Relations and Wellbeing will work collaboratively across the People function to ensure consistent information and advice is provided and proactive measures implemented where possible.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Lead the provision of expert advice regarding the prevention and/or resolution of significant staff matters to protect the Florey and to ensure compliance with relevant legislations, government policies and industrial instruments.
  • Drive a continued focus on outcomes across the Florey to grow a performance mindset and culture of accountability.
  • Build the service and brand of the function and ensure the offering is understood and utilised across the organisation.
  • Implement an effective triage process to ensure prompt support and the appropriate level of expertise is applied to each case and enquiry.
  • Lead and develop the team to undertake effective case management of diverse employee case types by being effective trusted advisors in delivering solutions that     address and resolve matters.
  • Be a subject matter expert escalation point by providing coaching and specialist HR advice on
  • escalated enquiries.
  • Building team capability and strengthen the relationships across the People function.
  • Manage concerns in an authentic and customer focussed manner.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with the NTEU.
  • Deliver coaching and training sessions in areas of expertise.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance regarding the ER/IR related aspects of major projects and project manage individual ER/IR related projects.
  • Lead and oversee all areas of Enterprise Bargaining.
  • Where required undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity to maintain Victorian Legal Practising Certificate.
  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships across all areas of the Institute. With a particular focus on designated business areas, act as the primary point of contact for employees and managers for all people related matters;
  • Take responsibility for all Florey People polices.
  • Make decisions and solve complex problems with a considerable degree of autonomy and an ability to negotiate, consult or escalate matters when required;
  • Manage and conduct formal performance management and misconduct investigations, including providing expert advice and recommendations to managers and senior leaders and liaising with unions and legal professionals as well as representing The Florey at Fair Work Conciliations when necessary;
  • Develop and deliver innovative, high quality learning and development solutions that align with the Florey’s business and strategic goals and support ongoing organisational capability uplift.

The role attracts an annual salary offer of $137,251 (Professional Staff Level 10A), commensurate with experience.

 About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Industrial/Employee Relations, Law or relevant experience
  • Holding a current Victorian Practicing Certificate (Victorian Legal Services Board) would be advantageous
  • Solid understanding of IR legislation;
  • Strong experience in coaching and conflict resolution;
  • Solid HR experience at a senior management level;
  • Proven experience in leading teams and managing and developing staff
  • Current and extensive knowledge of the Fair Work Act
  • Proven experience in high level consultation and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience establishing priorities and delivering results to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Willingness to take initiative and ability to apply independent thinking to solve complex problems;
  • Works with a considerable degree of autonomy;
  • Adaptable and flexible;
  • Strong capabilities in decision making, influencing and stakeholder management;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills.
