The role
The Head of Finance is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial, legal, and governance functions of the organization. Reporting directly to the COO, the Head of Finance will ensure the effective management of finance operations, legal and governance frameworks, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and scientific platforms. The role is critical in supporting the organization’s mission as a medical research institute and managing its foundation and future fund.
Key Responsibilities
The position will be responsible for:
Financial Management: Oversee monthly financial reporting, budgeting annual external audit and preparation of financial statements.
Legal & Governance Provide strategic oversight on legal matters, Supporting commercial negotiation, particularly for commercial and medical research-related agreements. While maintaining governance oversight.
Committee Engagement Prepare and present reports to the Audit, Risk, and Governance Committee, and the Investment Committee.
Operational Oversight Manage purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll functions, scientific platforms and the Florey Foundation ensuring operational efficiency.
Strategic Leadership Act as a strategic advisor to the COO and executive team on financial and governance matters.

The role attracts an Executive level salary, commensurate with experience.
About you:
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline (CPA or CA qualification preferred).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to align financial operations with organisational goals.
- Extensive experience in financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and audits.
- Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiation, particularly in a commercial and/or medical research context.
- In-depth knowledge of legal and governance requirements for medical research institutes.
- Proven ability to work with governance committees and present complex information effectively.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
