Manager of Legal Services

The role

The manager Legal Services will be a member of the operations group, reporting to the Head of Finance. 

The role will be responsible for receiving and assessing requests for legal advice/support and allocating and managing progress internally, or externally, as appropriate

The Manager legal services will also be responsible for tracking and advising key areas of the business of upcoming compliance or regulatory obligations and introduce workflows, templates and processes to standardise legal services.

The Manager Legal Services may also be called upon to provide legal advice in relation to proposed contracts negotiated through the Commercialisation team.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing relationships and work allocation to a panel of external solicitors and firms
  • Receive and review requests for legal advice and strategic legal support and allocate them appropriately
  • Manage version control of template documents produced internally and by external expertise

 About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law (Masters degree highly regarded); and
  • Current Victorian Legal Practice certificate;
  • Strong customer service focus
  • 8+ PQE ;
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex legal projects;
  • Leadership experience managing junior lawyers
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining a knowledge management system;
  • Proven legal advisory experience in commercialisation sector (highly regarded)
  • Collaborative and customer focused;
  • Attention to detail with a strong focus on time management and the timely [provision of advice and support
  • Ability to assess requests and determine the most appropriate course of action in a timely manner.
