About the role:
An exciting opportunity is available to join a highly motivated team of researchers within the Dementia Mission under the supervision of Prof Scott Ayton. This is a maternity leave replacement role for 1 year, with possibility of extension. The research focuses on investigating cell metabolism and cell death mechanisms implicated in Alzheimer’s disease.
The candidate will be responsible for:
- The maintenance of tissue culture cell lines and conducting cell culture experiments (transfection, toxicity studies) on a routine basis.
- Performing protein expression, purification and analysis on a routine basis.
- Conducting research both as part of a team, but also autonomously and under limited supervision.
- Ensuring required lab consumables are ordered in a timely fashion.
- Maintaining clear and accurate laboratory notebook and other forms of records of experimental results as appropriate.

This position is full-time, fixed term role, ceasing after 1 year from the start date. The role attracts an annual salary offer ranging from RA1 ($72,519) to RA5 $88,314, commensurate with experience.

About you:
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) or similar degree (e.g., Biomedical Science)
- Knowledge and experience with cell culture
Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential:
- Knowledge in common laboratory methods such as western blot, and plate based assays is desirable
- A strong neuroscience background is desirable
