About the role:

This role will suit an experienced professional with strong leadership skills and outstanding relationship management. The role will be pivotal in shaping The Florey, leading strategic initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture and ensuring that our employees thrive professionally and personally.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and leading the overall people strategy in alignment with The Florey’s mission and goals
  • Managing The Florey Union Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, including representing the Florey for any Union related matter
  • Ensuring systems and processes are in place for the Institute to meet its responsibilities in relation to all HR related legislative requirements such as Occupational Health and Safety, WorkCover, Equal Opportunity and Workplace Relations.
  • Compliance reporting to government agencies and other external bodies (e.g. AAMRI)
  • Ensuring People and HR related policies are in place and up to date
  • Overall responsibility to manage people / HR budget / financial management
  • Overseeing recruitment and onboarding processes to ensure a diverse and talented workforce
  • Creating and implementing employee development programs to support career growth and enhance skills
  • Leading people analytics and performance management initiatives to ensure alignment with organisational objectives
  • Managing employee and industrial relations, including conflict resolution and employee engagement efforts
  • Liaising closely with the University HR Department with regard to the Department of Florey and The University of Melbourne as well as HR Managers at other institutes other Research Institutes
  • Co-ordinating and liaising closely with the Finance Team and Grants Office to ensure a co-ordinated service is always provided to research staff
  • Developing strong business partnering relationships with research personnel across The Florey
  • Collaborating with leadership to drive organisational change and continuous improvement
  • Staying informed of industry trends and best practices to enhance the institute's people and culture initiatives

This position is a permanent, full-time and attracts market competitive salary package.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of experience in human resources, talent management, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Organisational Development, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience in a leadership role with a proven track record of strategic HR planning and execution including OHS
  • Strong understanding of employment law, regulations and industrial relations
  • Experience and/or keen interest in a scientific, clinical or research environment is desirable.
