About the role:

This position is a Florey Senior Research Fellow, equivalent to a Level C academic appointment. The successful applicant will be expected to integrate with one of our Missions &/or Themes (see https://florey.edu.au/our-research/missions-themes/) and drive a research program.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Management of research projects
  • Supervision of research staff and students, inclusive of promoting career development
  • Conducting independent & team-based research activities
  • Submitting applications & obtaining competitive grant funding to support team activities
  • Producing published works including journal articles, conference and seminar papers, and reports, and materials which promote the activities of the research group such as posters and talks
  • Overseeing financial management of research budgets
  • Supervising employees and supporting the career development of team members.

  • Applicants will be asked to include a forward-looking vision statement regarding alignment with the Florey Missions / Themes
  • All applicants shall have the opportunity to indicate career disruptions and any other factor that is relevant regarding consideration of relative to opportunity.
  • A panel of six (3 Florey, 3 University of Melbourne representatives, observing gender balance and spanning clinical/basic research expertise) will assess the applications, co-chaired by the Deputy Directors of The Florey. This process may include an interview with the panel.
  • In the event of a perceived or actual conflict of interest, panel members will be substituted.

This position is a fixed term, full-time role. The role attracts an annual salary offer – up to Senior Research Fellow 2 (SRF2) $125,760, commensurate with experience.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Doctoral / medical qualification in neuroscience or related field
  • Demonstrable professional achievement in the field of research
  • Minimum 6 years’ postdoctoral experience in a related field of research
  • National and developing international standing in their field of research
  • Significant experience in leading and developing teams, including obtaining funding
  • Extensive experience in experimental &/or clinical neuroscience, including research project management and supervision of staff / students
