About the role:

The editorial office for the Journal of Neurochemistry (JNC) is located at the Florey, along with the Editor-in-Chief Professor Andrew Lawrence. The office team comprises three positions, namely Managing Editor, Editorial Office Coordinator, and Social Media and Communications Coordinator. An exciting opportunity for the position of Managing Editor awaits a qualified candidate.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and roll out of journal strategy, mission, and scope of JNC in consultation with key stakeholders to maintain JNC’s position as the primary international journal for publishing neuroscience research
  • Prepare high-quality documents including annual reports, user performance metrics, journal metadata, and formal notices such as retractions or corrigenda
  • Oversee the end-to-end editorial and peer review process for quality assurance of scientific manuscripts
  • Liaise with publishers to ensure smooth end-to-end delivery of publication operations
  • Ensure journal compliance with best-practice ethical and scientific integrity policies for scholarly publishing in consultation with EiC, ISN Publication Committee & publisher
  • Strategically implement expert content developed with the Editorial team and JNC’s further stakeholders, reflecting the views of the journal’s current agenda and policy

This position is a fixed-term, full-time role ceasing on 31st December 2025. The role attracts an annual salary increment Research Officer 3 (RO3) $94, 631, commensurate with experience.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • PhD in neuroscience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in academia
  • Prior experience managing, editing and strategically developing scientific journals
  • Prior experience producing and supporting scientific communication in neurochemistry or related fields

Experience with the below is desirable:

  • Relationship management
  • Negotiation and people management
  • Master of Business Administration
