Research Officer

Job No: FLOREY158
Location: Parkville

About the role:

A position is now open for a highly motivated scientist at any Postdoctoral level to join a new team studying neural circuits and behavior at The Florey Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

We are interested in the neural circuits underlying perception using the somatosensory system in mice as a model. The circuitry and computations of decision-making and decision anxiety are of particular interest. We focus on representations and interconnected neural networks in the thalamus and the cortex, how they are generated, turned into action, and impacted by disease. Questions will be investigated at the cellular, circuit and behavioral levels by combining neural circuit tracing, neurophysiological recordings and imaging with behavioral tasks in the mouse. Cortical and thalamic projections will also be optogenetically manipulated to test functional contributions. The candidate will lead their own projects from conception to data collection, analyses, writing and presentation at conferences.
