Research Officer

About the role:

A postdoctoral position is available within the Neural Networks Laboratory to investigate the electrophysiological properties of brain cancer. In vitro whole cell patch-clamp recordings will be performed in human tissue to investigate the properties of glioma cells and adjacent pyramidal neurons. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented candidate with extensive experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology. Further, the ideal candidate should have a strong neuroscience or quantitative science background with a proven publication record.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting in vitro patch clamp experiments
  • The production of published works in refereed journals, books, conferences and seminar papers.
  • Involvement in professional activities, including contributions such as conferences and seminars in the field of expertise.

This position is a fixed term, full-time role. The role attracts an annual salary offer ranging from Research Officer 1 (RO1) $88,155 to Research Officer 3 (RO3) $94,631, commensurate with experience.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience with patch clamp electrophysiology
  • Strong background in neuroscience
  • Good communication, writing and organisational skills
  • Ability to work as part of research team, while demonstrating initiative
  • Understanding and compliance with OHS laboratory requirements

Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience with in vivo systems
  • Experience working with human tissue for patch clamp electrophysiology
  • Expertise in multi-photon imaging
  • Knowledge of relevant aspects of molecular and cellular neuroscience
  • Experience in teaching and the supervision of students
